A conversation with National Cyclist

National Cyclist

I met Rajan, a 20-year-old young boy associated with Zomato, who delivers food on his cycle. In a conversation with him, he told me how he rides from 11 am to 11 pm daily and manages to earn Rs 600 per day. When I asked him if he doesn’t get tired while riding so much, he just laughed and told me that he is also a ‘National Cyclist‘!

He also showed me the history of his rides where he had travelled 1000 kms on his cycle. I asked him if he is also studying anywhere, and why is he associated with Zomato. To which he replied – “I am a third-year diploma student and I study at night. I only have to give my exams and not attend any classes. I am the sole earner for my family (based in Bihar) and with Zomato, I get a chance to earn bread for my family while following my passion for cycling.” “Sir practice bhi ho jaati hai, ghar bhi chal jaaata hai” – Rajan replied with a smile.

I thanked Rajan for the inspiration, and he just went happily riding his bicycle to deliver another order. Indeed, people like him are the backbone of startups like Zomato. And thank you Zomato, for giving Raju an opportunity to work and follow his passion. I hope the firm can do something or provide avenues to take his talent to the next level. Thoughts!!
