‘I am deaf and dumb. Please bear with me.’ – read the placard kept at a KFC counter. Behind the counter was a young boy probably in the mid-20s serving food with an innocent smile.
The young boy greeted me with a warm smile, and with his hands folded handed over the menu to me. I pointed at the items I wanted to eat and communicated with him using the sign language.
He understood every bit of it and within a minute my order was ready. Winners As I picked up the tray and turned to my other side, I noticed that the boy had won ‘Employee of the month award‘ for his excellent customer service and that was the moment I realized how some people are so brave enough to perform exceptionally well even in the most difficult times. And how others have all the readily available resources with them and still crib about their lives every now and then.
Though the boy was deaf and dumb, he was indeed an inspiration for me! Thank you, KFC, for giving him a chance. I wish more companies hire such awesome souls. Have you ever witnessed a differently abled person working efficiently? Should they be hired more in service-based roles?
