WIFM – What’s in for me?

The number one thing holding you back when it comes to marketing is sometimes you.

WIFM – What’s in for me?

When you look at a marketing message and you think to yourself “I don’t think it’s differentiating enough” that’s a red flag that you’re looking at things from your perspective, not your audience’s.

Does your audience care about how strongly the message differentiates you? I would argue they don’t. They only care about how they can benefit from what you’re saying.

When you think “this is good, but we also need to talk about xyz features and benefits and also making this relevant for customers “xyz” that’s another red flag.

Saying everything that you want to say and reaching all of the customers you want to reach in one single message is once again thinking about what you want to accomplish vs. what your audience (think one single person) needs and wants.

Stripping yourself of all business mindsets and tendencies and going all-in on a customer mindset is the hardest thing to do when it comes to marketing… but once you do it (or find a partner who can help you do it) you will have a ton more success.
